(Defining Revelation)The bible states in Deuteronomy 28:58-61, “If you do not carefully observe all the words of this law that are written in this book, that you may fear this glorious and awesome name, THE LORD YOUR GOD, 59 then the Lord will bring upon you and your descendants extraordinary plagues—great and prolonged plagues—and serious and prolonged sicknesses. 60 Moreover He will bring back on you all the diseases of Egypt, of which you were afraid, and they shall cling to you. 61 Also every sickness and every plague, which is not written in this Book of the Law, will the Lord bring upon you until you are destroyed.
Does this day and age seem to be plagued with sickness and disease? Stuff the doctors can't cure or help you get over? Yes is the answer. Is this age filled with Godlessness and selfishness? I would think so. Matthew 24 definitely gives us parallels to consider. Was God being vengeful or righteous when He pronounced the curses for disobedience in Deuteronomy 28? Righteous of course! Deuteronomy 28:47,48 states, “Because you did not serve the Lord your God with joy and gladness of heart, for the abundance of everything, 48 therefore you shall serve your enemies, whom the Lord will send against you." Can you tell me you are serving God with joy and gladness of heart, for the abundance of everything, and carefully observing all of His Words? Or do you feel that you are just an unworthy worm in the soil of the Kingdom? I am not pointing the finger at anyone, but merely trying to stir up faith.
So here we are, living in modern day enlightened society, going to church, doing what we think is right and seeing this thing called the curse manifest all around us. Sickness, disease, mental/emotional issues, poverty, etc. and little victory over such. And it is not because we haven't studied faith, because we have. Failure to overcome what Jesus did for us on the cross is a receiving issue. It also can be a lack of knowledge. This is what we like to do here - stir up faith through knowledge! Sir Francis Bacon (born 1/22/1561, died 4/9/1626) said that "knowledge is power". I would like to rephrase this to say, "knowledge of God's Word and faith in His Words produce power; all the power necessary to bring about healing.
Let's turn over some hard soil this evening. The Lord put this question of, "What is sickness and disease?" as tonight's study for the purpose of dismantling the world's ideology and seeing it for what it really is.
Websters says what sickness is: Disease; malady; a morbid state of the body in which the organs do not perfectly perform their natural functions. The word MOR'BID, adj [Latin morbidus, form morbus, a disease, from the root of morior, to die.] Diseased; sickly; not sound and healthful (and it is possible one could die!)
Doctors have to study the human body and how it works and also the disease process so that they might become knowledgeable in how to defeat it. God wants us to mature into the knowledge of evil ( through scripture) for the same purpose. Brother are you saying sickness and disease are evil? Let us take a look…
Websters 1828 Dictionary definition
DISEASE, noun
1. pain, uneasiness, distress
2. The cause of pain or uneasiness; distemper; malady; sickness; disorder; any state of a living body in which the natural functions of the organs are interrupted or disturbed. The first effect of disease is uneasiness or pain, and the ultimate effect is death..
3. A disordered state of the mind or intellect, by which the reason is impaired. What we would call mental issues
Cause of disease according to alternative medicine • Accumulation of toxic material (e.g., through poor diet). • Improper posture. • Destructive emotions. • The use of suppressive drugs and vaccines. • Use of alcohol, coffee and tobacco. • Environmental hazards in the form of air and water pollution. • Occupational hazards (e.g., chemicals, poor air quality, noise pollution, asbestos and others). Infections, and Inherited genes
Some of these causes go along with known spiritual root causes of sickness and disease brought out by people like Gene Moody and Henry Wright. Basically spirit, soul and body are out of sync with each other, and out of balance. God is in the balance business.
In previous talks I have used the help of synonyms to implicate evil involved in words such as the word negative. Again we have synonyms telling us that disease is evil. Consider if you would the following terms describing disease and see if you come to the same conclusion. Malady, attack, bug, distemper, infirmity, ail, complication, plague, trouble, contagion, contagious disease, epidemic, debility, pestilence, lameness, feebleness, spell, weakness, sickliness, morbid (death), decrepitude! Again, good is from God and bad is from the devil! Somehow though we get things mixed up because the enemy is a deceiver and we do get tricked into thinking good is evil and evil is good.
Alright you might say, I can go along with disease being evil and a work of the devil, but how does that help me? Good question, and I will try my best to put this into bible perspective.
Here goes. Galatians 3:13 Christ hath redeemed us from the curse of the law, being made a curse for us: for it is written, Cursed is every one that hangs on a tree:
Matthew 8:17 - That it might be fulfilled which was spoken by Isaiah the prophet, saying, Himself took our infirmities, and bore our sicknesses.
Isaiah 53:4-5 - However, it was our sicknesses that He Himself bore, And our pains that He carried; Yet we ourselves assumed that He had been afflicted, Struck down by God, and humiliated. But He was pierced for our offenses, He was crushed for our wrongdoings; The punishment for our peace or well-being was laid upon Him, And by His wounds we are healed.
If something is evil we are in the position of resisting it. James 4:7 says, "Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you." that could also be the evil of bodily sickness.
To do this might take some work on your part. You might want to know where this sickness came from or what opened the door for it. If the enemy has a legal right to afflict, it will afflict and continue to do so until that right is removed by the person involved. This means repentance, forgiveness, and taking your authority as a believer.
If we believe that sickness and disease came from a certain place or set of circumstances, we might conclude that there is no way to get over it. Like someone might say, "my grandfather on my mother's side had arthritis, and therefore handed it down the bloodline to me and I am stuck with it." So we are ascribing a reason for that sickness (or set of symptoms) to be there. By doing so we give it permission to stay in our bodies.
If sickness is a certain set of symptoms felt at the same time and we can pray against an individual symptom and see God remove it then is that sickness the same or did it remain just a set of symptoms minus the one God removed? Conversely, If the enemy were to present a symptom, lets' say sneezing. Then you had a thought, "I must have allergies." Rethinking, you said no, "I don't have allergies" and after a while the sneezing stopped. Without the symptom there is no allergy. So you are not sick. I would like us to stretch our thinking tonight and see that perhaps, if temptation can cause us to sin by agreeing with a thought then agreeing with thoughts of illness can cause us to be sick. Scripture says we are according to how we think. As we think we believe. Believing has to do with faith. Worldly thought will stop faith.
Some common reasons we have for keeping an illness might be:
1. I always get this allergy every spring.
2. It was in my family line
3. There is no known cure.
4. God might be using this to teach me something.
5. I can live with it.
6. The doctors say," xyzz"
7. I know others with this, and they have experienced "xyz"
The Word says 2 Corinthians 10:5 Casting down imaginations, and every high thing that exalts itself against the knowledge of God, and bringing into captivity every thought to the obedience of Christ. We are to follow Christ's thoughts because we have the mind of Christ.
I would like us to consider for a moment the enemy's game - long term.
The training of satan: satan's game is simple.
1) Rule through the spirit of fear.
2)Teach people to die.
3) Give them voices in society that sound like they have authority and truth but are deceivers!
Satan likes to train people over a period of time through agreement with the spirit of fear so that we will think like him. Truth slightly altered can deceive our minds. For instance the idea that doctors cure people is something floating around society and if the doctors can't cure it we are doomed, we think. What do doctors actually do? Well sometimes they can save lives in emergencies. Most of the time they are helping us manage a disease. At best they are helping the body go in the direction of restored health. So is it the doctors efforts, faith in God, or a combination doctor and faith in God which makes us well? I get help from doctors when I believe I need it. Even though modern medicine is limited, it can rescue us in the moment and give us time to activate our faith.
The Lord is involved in curing sickness and disease, not keeping it around. The devil will take what you give it (him). So don't give it (him) anything, especially your agreement! The Spirit of truth lives in you and will lead you into all truth!
Historical Training
Magic and religion played a large part in the medicine of prehistoric or early human society. Administration of a vegetable drug or remedy by mouth was accompanied by incantations, dancing, grimaces, and all the tricks of the magician. Therefore, the first doctors, or “medicine men,” were witch doctors or sorcerers. The use of charms and talismans, still prevalent in modern times, is of ancient origin.
The Egyptians had a god of medicine, Saqqara. Ancient papyrus discovered in the 19th century found lists of remedies, with appropriate spells, incantations, etc.
Early humans also included supernatural superstition into their understanding of disease. Serious diseases could be attributed to demons or gods or witchcraft, and treated by incantations, spells, potions and other ancient practices. The devil was training them to fear the devil and sickness and disease.
Each culture had their own unique gods and practices which seemed to be an extension of the people and their beliefs. The development of Western medicine apart from magic took centuries.
The search for information on ancient medicine leads naturally from the papyri of Egypt to Hebrew literature. Though the Bible contains little on the medical practices of ancient Israel, it is a mine of information on social and personal hygiene. The Jews were indeed pioneers in matters of public health! THEY STILL ARE TODAY! World Index of Healthcare Innovation Rank Israel #1 slightly above the US.
Should we as Christians implicitly trust our doctors and the people who make medical policy with our lives?
The scripture that comes to mind is Jeremiah 17:5 “This is what the Lord says: Cursed is the person who trusts humans, who makes flesh and blood his strength and whose heart turns away from the Lord."
I thank the Lord for the many times He saved me from terrible situations involving my health! He ultimately became my health provider!
We pray for people who are scheduled for a procedure, or surgery and you know, when God is involved, things will turn out good! Trust in the Lord! Go to the doctor by faith. It's not a cop out.
No one can tell you that it wasn't right but you. Do you know, a mustard seed is a measure of faith? My rule is, God first, doctor second. If you are afraid, get someone to pray with you. Don't make decisions out of fear! It's the wrong spirit to follow.
Do not Fear Sicknesses.
God and His Word have the answer to everything! You are safe in the shelter of the Most High. Live in His Word and by His Word. Let the supernatural power of God's Word permeate your life and your life will be full of health and victory!
